| Half way there.. My spanking new race-spec engine is half built! Bottom end has now been fully lightened and balanced including low compression forged steel pistons and conrods (had to wait for them to come from Germany).Molly coated piston liners, under piston oil spray* (*only 3 renault5gtturbo engines in the country with this mod including mine!) knifedged and balanced+reground crankshaft. Hopefully the rest should be finished within a week or 2 which will be.. "GT" spec camshaft, lightened and balanced flywheel, ported and polished head and matched to manifold, vernier camshaft pulley, high lift valve springs, valves recut, uprated valve stem seals,A.R,P bolts, refit of my Hybrid Garrett t25 turbo, knock sensor with lambda probe,10 row oil cooler. Thats all for now......all been paid for, just waiting for the guys to finish it now like a kid waiting for christmas then i have to spend 1,500 very boring miles running the engine in while keeping it under 5000 rpm I know the resident scouser thinks im mad but put this into perspective.....a Porsche 911 turbo (£80,600 btw) has a bhp per litre figure of 113.6 bhp per litre...a Porsche 997 has 117 bhp per litre....a Lamborghini gallardo (£123,000!!) has a bhp per litre figure of 100.79 bhp per litre.....My "lil trashcan" 5 will be running in the region of 150 bhp per litre! (cant be 100% sure untill the engine has been run in and the boost has been correctly set up with the fueling on a rolling road) but that pisses all over far more expensive and exotic machinery!!!!! (Ok i wont have porsche top end speed but ill whip most of em to 60 or down a quarter mile drag track and for a fraction of the cost of one of those "supercars") Before the new race spec engine build my car had 213bhp at the Flywheel-around 190bhp at the wheels.....new engine should be around 230-260bhp at the Flywheel!! depending on how much boost i run but 26psi should be enough (not bad for a 1.4 litre 1397cc 8 valve pushrod engine with carb and no fuel injection eh). Good times ahead! Can only guess at quarter mile times and 0-60 figures atm but ill be suprised if it dont do 60 in around 4 seconds and with my old engine i ran a best quarter mile of 13.8 secs......should be able to knock 2 secs off that time. Ill post some pics when i get the car back with new engine in but atm theres no bling or shiney bits on the engine...all about go an not show this time.
